Well,
I quit facebook again in an effort to preclude any attempts at procrastination, but it has only been an hour and I am already looking for another means of time-wasting. So... here I am again. Finals are a week and a half away and what's worse is that the weather here in Eugene has been amazing, making any attempts at study virtually impossible. I had a plan to study all day Saturday, and that was dashed the second someone called and asked if I wanted to go on a picnic. Pathetic.
My second semester of law school was good, but it wasn't even nearly as fun as the first- sort of reminiscent of my first year at Whitman. I guess it makes sense though- the beginning of any new adventure is always exciting, but as the journey wears on, the small nuances and challenges that made things interesting and fun become annoying and draining. I hear this is a normal reaction to have during your second semester of law school- which is comforting, but also makes me all the more happy that this semester is almost done.
I am staying here in Eugene this summer to take a couple of classes and work as a research assistant. I am hoping to work for my kooky Property professor who is involved in the Environmental and Natural Resources program here. She is ridiculously energetic, and is involved in a lot of activist programs having to do with global warming and land use- so I think she will be a great resource for me.
Otherwise, things are good. I got to go back and visit Walla Walla for a weekend with my friend, Brandon. It was a lot of fun, although the campus aura seemed to have evolved from where we left it.
Okay... I was supposed to get my property reading done before class, but it appears as though livejournal has also proved to be an all too tempting form of procrastination and now I only have 15 minutes to read 4 cases... Ill let you know how that goes...

Well, Tippy told me it is time to update... and she even gave me an idea of what my post should look like.
So here it is, my life brought to you by Tippy.
I started law school
I have a Swedish roommate- she will be here for a year and she already has a boyfriend.
Tippy visited this weekend and I took her to a party at my friend's house. Marya came too. We played drinking games like beirut, flippy cup, and kings. My friends were very impressed that not only did Tippy bring her own alcohol, but that she brought Grey Goose WITH a cranberry cocktail mixer- classy. We proceeded to get very drunk and then went to a bar to dance. I heckled the DJ to play Motownphilly (it just wouldn't be right if I didn't) and Tippy pulled out her signature dance moves. DJ finally played Motownphilly and the club went crazy (or at least I did).
Later in the evening I was standing by the door when an old, decrepit-looking man that Tippy had nicknamed "the prospector" came wobbling over to me. I thought he was going to accost me because he heard me calling him by said nickname. Instead of this, he stroked my face and said:
"You are so beautiful." (staring meaningfully into my eyes)
I said, "Thank you."
He replied, "I need to take a Piiiiissssss."
And wobbled off.
The next day my head hurt a lot and I had to do a lot of reading. Instead I went to play in a beirut tournament, thankfully losing in the first round, and came home and watched the Sound of Music.
Today I am catching up on all of the reading I should have been doing when I was listening to Motownphilly, drinking beer, and watching old musicals.
So, that is my life right now.

Although this may sound creepily like US weekly, I have to tell everyone I know, just because it seems so ridiculous:

Paris Hilton spotted in Whitefish, Montana at Glow Tanning Salon. The heiress was in town for the Fourth of July where Nicole Richie's dad was singing at a local party. No sightings were made at downtown bars afterwards or the party itself.

Also, I saw Jerry Rice. I feel like I am in a woodsy Hollywood.

I know I haven't posted in a while, but as I told Tippy, I usually need a good story to get me motivated to do so. And now I have one! Fritz has finally gotten all of his shots and now I can walk him anywhere without having to worry about him catching a cold from other dogs or people or whatever. So, yesterday I decided to walk Fritz and my other dog, Aspen, from Ledbetter Beach to UCSB. It is a pretty long walk, but I have been told by numerous sources that Westies are great hikers and that I should not worry about taking him on long walks. Well, everything was just dandy- the weather was perfect, people were smiling and waving, and Aspen wasn't even attacking other dogs. Then, I stumbled upon the nude beach. Unfortunately I didn't have the dog's leads on and Fritz immediately ran up to a portly older gentleman who was wearing nothing but a huge smile and a weird sun bonnet. I was distracted at the time, talking to another walker who was asking many questions about my dogs. Unfortunately, what caught my attention was Fritz licking this man and begging to be picked up. I sprinted over to try to catch him before this meeting became longer than it should be, but of course, Fritz refused to come when I called him, resulting in me going over to the naked man, and bending down and picking Fritz up. I don't want to talk about specifics, but let's just say I got an eyeful. Naturally the man wanted to talk to me more... because he is just a normal guy enjoying a day at the beach. Sadly, I could not talk to him more because to me he wasn't just a normal guy enjoying a day at the beach, he was completely naked... aside from the hat. So, I just scurried away saying I needed to be somewhere (which he obviously knew was not true) and thanked him for being so nice to my dog.
One thing I can say is that from afar, most nude beach goers look very attractive. They don't have any tan lines, walk very confidently, and are most definitely smiling. It is too bad that this positive perception usually ends once you get up close.

11:06 am - South Africa, baby
Man!
Today I am traveling back to the US after spending two weeks in South Africa (however, four of those days were spent in airports...) I had an amazing time and met so many cool people that I am really getting revved up to travel some more. The flight over here was really long and I had an unfortunate incident involving a man who decided to take over all the free seats in our shared row and even put his feet ON me at the end of the flight- greedy bastard. Luckily, as many of you know, I can sleep in pretty much any location at any time, so I guess it was good it happened to me and not someone else. When I got here it was a lovely 85 degrees (OMFG) and we spent the day at the beach lounging around and drinking delicious cocktails. From there ensued much debauchery including a night spent in a library drinking brandy and singing drinking songs.
Perhaps this library drinking night was not well planned because we had to travel all the next day to go on safari in Botswana, but all was cured after a couple of trips to the lavatory. Safari was AWESOME. We had a 22 year old guide who managed to be pretty condescending, and completely loveable at the same time. It was hard to leave him at the end of our trip, but at the same time I felt good knowing that I wouldn't feel like an idiot if I didn't intrinsically know the behavioral patterns and asthetics of nile monitor lizards.
From there we returned to Cape Town and went to a craft market, a crazy bead shop and spent a full day drinking wine and eating shortbread in wine country(I still feel sick). Anyways, it has been a lovely trip and my wallet and I are sad that we have to return to the States (everything here is so fricken cheap). Hopefully my plane rides home will be uneventful and I will not be tempted into drinking mass quantities of brandy before I go on my flight.

Man! I am so over the service industry.
Tonight I had some pretty ridiculous customers, including a 6-top of chauvinistic Canadians (who were extremely offended when I carded them) and a 7-top of old timers who said that none of their burgers came with lettuce. Naturally, all of their burgers DID come with lettuce, but it was just hiding under their mountains of fries. When I pointed this out, they all said, "no, we have no lettuce." So I ran back to the kitchen, got four plates of lettuce and handed them out. Of course, by the end of the night, each burger plate was completely clean aside from the lettuce that they had claimed didn't exist at the beginning of the meal.
To make the whole thing even more aggravating, they all thought my name was Ashley, and when I didn't respond, they would wave their hands frantically in the air, looking outraged that I never answered to my own name and didn't give them any lettuce.

Because of my consumption of three caffeine-laden Sparks drinks, I was not able to sleep at all. Everyone else who crashed at my house is currently snoozing the day and their hangovers away, and I am sitting here all jittery and crazy. When everyone wakes up I bet Ill be crouching in a corner with a Sparks saying "my precious..."

Let's hope that doesn't happen.

I am down in Santa Barbara now, taking a couple weeks off from the chilly weather in Montana- when I left it was a measly 1 degree. It has been fun to be home, and my dad and I even got to do a little bonding while watching the first season of the Apprentice. My dad goes on and on about how much he hates Donald Trump, but I think this is either short-sighted or a cover up, because from what I can see, they appear to be the same person. Last night, after talking to my drunk parents after they had gone to a Christmas party, my mom's dog, Bailey, tried to bite me! This was surprising on many levels:
1) I thought Bailey and I had been making progress, as he had jumped on my lap several times during the day.
2) He hadn't tried to bite anyone for a while
3) I had always thought that I had a sort of Doctor Doolittle thing going on, where all animals loved me and we had a great understanding of each other
Anyways, because my dad was so drunk he started yelling that we should feed Bailey to the coyotes, and would not listen to any thoughts counter to this statement. So he shoved Bailey outside and told him to "run far away." It was really weird and pretty theatric, but luckily within 15 minutes he had forgotten about it and was on the phone calling people in Florida- even though it was like 2am their time. Today, my dad and Bailey are best friends again- I caught them sharing a bagel this morning. So, all's well that ends well?

Yesterday I went to a local grocery store (known for its small, yet excellent selection of organic and "crunchy" food) to get some stuff to make a veggie pot pie. I proceeded to the check out counter after collecting all of my items, only to be met with a surly teenaged bagger boy. When he saw what I bought, he exclaimed, "you got all the gross stuff! My mom makes me eat that, it is so gross- I could almost throw up looking at it." Playing the diplomat, the checker said that some people may enjoy these things, even though most dont. The bag boy turned to me and said, "You aren't going to make YOUR kids eat that junk, are you?" I just responded that I didn't know if I would ever have kids. "Good," he said, "people like you shouldn't be able to have kids because you'll just torture them." Wha? I guess his views on my food choices should have been apparent to me when I walked up and saw his hunting camo-hat.
Speaking of hunting, up here in NW Montana you cannot recycle glass or colored plastic, but you CAN recycle animal skins.

I have had a headache for about 2 weeks. I have come to the conclusion that this means either one of three things:
1) I am TENSE... but I really have no proof to back this up.
2) I have failing eyesight and must correct it via fashionable and scholarly looking eyewear (I really hope it is this one).
3) I have a tumor (I really hope it is NOT this one).

Anyways, last week I went to Jacksonville to help my mom after she got her knee replacement surgery. Mostly I went to the store and bought my dad lots of vitamins and blueberries, but I also got to run errands for my mom! What I learned was that Floridians are the worst drivers in the world. It seems that crosswalks, turn signals, and fast or slow lanes on the freeway have ceased to exist down there. Maybe it is because they are all frightened of an alligator suddenly jumping out of the bushes and attacking their SUVs.

Last night I had 5 tables TOTAL at the restaurant= 40 dollars in tips. Wooohoooo slow season.
