Well, I am at work updating mailing lists, so I thought it would only be fitting if I also updated my lj. Doing these mailing lists is a nice break from the tedium of map-making. Yesterday I finished my last map of the Swan Valley and so took it to the UPS store to get copied. This involved a lot of ridiculous instructions and I am pretty sure that the guy who was helping me wanted to rip off my head and xerox it until I shut up. Although I made an enemy, I must say the maps turned out delightfully and my boss said that they were "pretty good." Not as complimentary as delightful, but Ill take it.
I am also working at a restaurant four days a week and so am making mad bank. Not really, but at least it is more than the 280 dollars I make bi-weekly with my internship. Yesterday I waited on these people from the Netherlands who made conversation extremely awkward and nearly impossible. Usually I like to ask people who are clearly tourists where they are from or if they need any activity recommendations. This generally leads to a conversation about Glacier National Park and how wonderful it is... blah blah blah. Well, when I asked these people from the Netherlands how they liked Whitefish, they scrunched up their noses and said, "we have seen better." I just said that it was a small town, and pretty restrictive activity wise. They responded by saying they just got out of the park, and I recognized the comment as a good conversation starter. I declared that the park was amazing and asked if they enjoyed themselves. The shook their heads and said, "we have seen better." I just started laughing and then asked if they wanted more wine- because I am pretty sure that is the only way they would ever have fun. Despite this awkward conversation, they gave me a pretty good tip for being foreigners and the woman winked at me numerous times... so, I guess it ended up okay. Anyways, I have realized that being a server is ridiculously awkward at times (like when groups of 40 year old drunk men are your customers) but it also provides for a fun and social work environment.
Other than that, I found a white scottish terrier on the road the other night. I tried to keep him, but unfortunately my mother found his gracious owners. Curses. It is obvious he was meant to find me and leave his loving and caring owners- why cant my parents see that?
